When it's time for General Conference, it's time to come up with a creative craft for my kids to keep them occupied for 2 hours at a time. I love conference time. I love hearing it resonate in my home, and I want the kids to grow up remembering seeing it and hearing it when they were young, even if they're not really watching it yet.
President Monson's photographic memory amazes me. I love the stories he tells, it's inspiring to hear the faith people in the world have had in times of imaginable hardships.
Conference time for me fills up my 'just about runnin on empty' tank and I feel I'm made a better person. Thank goodness it happens twice a year. We also record it on the DVR so that we can go back and catch the parts we missed because of restless kiddos that have had just about enough of their parents sitting on the couch watching TV for 2 straight hours.
In between morning and afternoon sessions, Eric and I started cutting the fabric we bought for our kitchen chairs. We have a pub table that we got Christmas 2005. It was fun at first, until we realized, quickly, we shouldn't have bought chairs that had fabric, much less fabric covered seats without plastic covering the fabric, to repel the many lovely things that would, could, and did get spilled on them from my youngins.
Scrubbing those blasted fabric covered chairs every week became about as welcome as a skunk at a lawn party.
We found the perfect fabric on Saturday, it's perfect because it looks Japanese.
Ever since living on Okinawa, I've wanted to have a Japanese style table, ya know, the kind where you sit on tatami mats and the table is like 12 inches off the ground.
I always either sit cross-legged or on one leg anyway. I suggested we cut the legs off the table hence, turning it into Japanese style table.

Eric put the ixnay on that idea when I came into the dining room with a look of determination , and the chain saw.
So instead, we'll cover the chairs with the japanese style fabric and call it good.
Eric got 3 chairs done yesterday, working through and beyond the afternoon session of conference while it played on the tellie and the kids looked at their conference packets, for like 7 seconds. We want to get it all finished, and the table painted, before we move, whenever that is.
We have 6 chairs.
It takes a long time to pull out all the industrial strength staples.
I was about as useful as a pogo stick in quicksand when it came to pulling out those staples.
I bet my idea to use tatami mats was sounding pretty good to Eric last night.
(picture to come when the finished product is done, if it ever gets done)
Maybe I'll chant 'tatami mats, tatami mats' in Eric's ear while he sleeps.
I wonder if subliminal messages really do work?
