I kept Chaser home from school last Monday because he had a fever and a cough, and most likely a sore throat because everytime he coughed, he grabbed his throat.
Poor dude!
But I wasn't expecting to have him home and had to get some errands done anyway. He was sick, but not too sick for a trip to Target...who is???
Anyway, one second the little man is standing right next to me trying on sunglasses with bling, the next minute, gone, poof, vanished. He's a Houdini I tell you!
The problem with losing your autistic child in the store is that you can call out their name all ya want, it don't mean beans.
So I walked around for about 5 minutes listening for his humming, and he was no where to be found. I was pretty certain he wouldn't walk outta the store, and since I couldn't find him, I asked for help.
The employee I asked got on her walkie talkie and said they had a "code yellow", and a guy said through the intercom.."What's the child look like?" So I told her "blond hair and blue eyes, but he's not going to respond if you call out his name though", so she told him what he looked like and he said "oh yeah, he was over here in the dressing rooms" So we go over there, and he's not there now of course! Then someone else got on and said "I saw him at the sunglasses"....uh, yeah, for like 2 seconds and 5 minutes ago" Then another voice came on that said..."what's he wearing?? I think he's in the bathroom!!" Sure enough (and I shoulda known) Chase was in the women's bathroom flushing the toilets over and over, a favorite past time of his. He loves to flush the toilet, and then quickly plug his ears. I was relieved to find him, and to my pleasant surprise, he actually looked a little scared! My Chase?? Scared?? I hardly know the likes of that! This coming from a little boy who has no stranger danger whatsoever. It made me happy to see that reaction when I found him!
Now if we could just get him to stop running around the neighborhood trying to open all the car doors that are parked on the street to see if they're unlocked! Wouldn't it be strange to get in your car and find a blond haired, blue eyed child staring at you when you get in? I really need to make up fliers or knock on everyone's doors and let them know they really should lock their car doors! And keep their garages closed!
Never a dull moment with a Chase around!
I love that sweet blond haired, blue eyed angel ;)

Good story! Thanks for sharing. That feeling(where did my child go) is not fun, is it?
