I realized something about myself.
I never realize how much I enjoy living in a place, until it's just about time to leave it.
There's alot of things I'll miss about living in New Mexico, it's a good place, but the time has come to start a new adventure.
I encourage everyone to move every 3 to 4 years. You wouldn't believe the stuff you acquire in a short amount of time, that's just pure garbage. You don't even realize you have it, until you go to pack it.
I also wish we could afford to pack everything in plastic see through bins instead of boxes.
I knew a lady when i served my mission in Wisconsin that did that. Her entire basement was full of stacked bins profoundly organized with all her stuff. It was quite the sight.
I remember the sister I was serving with at the time say..."you have got to see this." It was like walking into a plastic bin wonderland..i was in awe.
During this move, we have, mostly me, scrounged around the base, scouting for people's used boxes and packing paper, which isn't hard when living on a military base where people come and go, especially this time of year. I always felt a little funny when i would pull up to someone's house to snag their boxes that they'd set out for the recycle truck. I wondered if they were watching from inside their house, wondering who this crazy person was stealing their garbage...and sometimes racing to beat the garbage truck that was trailing right behind me. I can picture it now....me, trying to hurry and shove boxes that weren't broken down, into our Ford Fusion.
Something fun to watch while having your morning tea and crumpets.
We were lucky enough to find just the right amount of boxes and packing paper for free, even some brand-new-never-been-used-packing paper!!
That was like Christmas all over again.
Wow...Is this what my life has come to??
It does when you're in the military, moving only 12 hours away from where you are stationed now, and the military will pay you 95 percent of what they would a moving company, if you move yourself.
You'd provide entertainment for the people watching you, from inside their house, as your stealing their garbage 10 feet away from their front door, ya know, there's always that.

~Murphey's Law at his finest:
When it's been 9 gazillion months since our part of New Mexico has had rain, and now, it's raining today, rained yesterday, and will rain tomorrow, and the next day, all while we will be in the midst of moving everything outta the house into the moving truck, and driving said moving truck to Vegas..... Yeah, i'd say that qualifies for his finest!
Yeah for rain on moving day!

Good luck Amber! We have had to start using plastic totes here because of the mice that have been eating through our cardboard boxes. It's crazy! I sure hope we will get to run into each other while I'm there!
Good luck on your Move!! I am excited that we will be able to get together more now that you will be back at Nellis. Will you be living on or near base? Talk to you soon!
Can't wait for you guys to get up here. At least the rain is cooling you off while packing the truck up!
You are so brave to move yourself! I guess the paycheck makes it more worthwile. I go to LV about every 3 months. I grew up in off base housing (81 Stafford Dr., so many good memories of walking to the base with my brother in the heat of summer). Obviously you have lot of options here (I'm visiting my parents this weekend) but Nellis is such a great base. I'm really happy for you to get to move back home.
