The Joys

Since part of the 'title' of my blog says "the joy we are finding in our journey through autism",
I've decided to do these 'special blogs' every so often that reveal the joy we find in Chase and his autism.

For example:
Eric and I were able to walk into Toys R Us on Saturday, with Chase, and not have to worry about him wanting every little thing he saw because when it comes to something like that, he doesn't care....it's "here nor there" with Chase, know what I mean??

But....we knew not to bring Allie with us to Toys R Us, because taking a 'typical' child (non-autistic child) into a toy store and telling them they're not getting anything is like telling a child they're going to Dairy Queen and instead, taking them to have a cavity filled. Oh the pain, the misery, the utter cruelty of it all.

Chase has a 'take it or leave it' attitude. But a typical 7 year old, in a toy store, has quite the opposite. It's more like "I'll have it, or I'll die if i don't' attitude.

Another one:
When your son walks up to the pulpit to say his part in the primary program at church, and instead of saying "Mothers teach their children the gospel with love" he proceeds to yell at someone to "drop it", get outta the kitchen " and "stop barking", and only you and your husband know that he's yelling at his grandpa's dog Buddy....
