So, anyone who knows me knows i wear contact lenses, and without them or glasses, I'm legally blind. I really don't know where i got my bad eyesight from. None of my siblings wear glasses, neither does my dad, and my mom wears glasses but she can still see without them. But me, I'm blind as a bat without glasses or contacts. I've always believed I wasn't adopted but I wonder.
Unfortunetly, Allie needs glasses. Right before we left Okinawa, we had her vision tested and the Dr gave us a prescription for her to get glasses. So when we got to New Mexico, we got her glasses. She had them about 2 months and then lost them. Now mind you, she never says anything about not being able to see well, so when she started Kindergarten, i kinda forgot that she can't see very well and when her progress report came home with her the other day, it said that she only got 2 out of the 25 'sight words' correct. I was like "what, how?" I go through those sight words every night with her before bed and she gets most of them right every night, and then it dawned on me....I'll bet that the teacher wasn't holding the 'sight word' cards 2 inches away from her nose like I do for her to read the word and say it! I'm a bad mother! Letting my child walk around practically blind! I think she thinks you're not supposed to be able to see the individual leaves on a tree, or blades of grass...she probably thinks everyone sees it as just big green blobs. So, I've got an appt for her to get a new prescription for glasses. Last week when i took her in for her sports physical for soccer, she had to stand probably 20 feet away from the eye chart, cover one eye, and tell the nurse the name of the shape she was pointing at. The first shape the nurse pointed to was a triangle...and Allie said"is that a hexagon? Then the next shape was a heart, and she said it was an octagon. Hmm, well, kudos to her for knowing the hard shapes!
